IEEE GCCE 2024 Excellent Poster Awards - Gold Prize
Experimental Evaluation of Physical Unclonable Function Extracted From Contact Bounce of Mechanical Relay"
  • 著者: Shunsuke Arai (National Institute of Technology, Tokyo College, Japan), Satta Jukka (Metropolia UAS, Finland), Yuma Kawachi, Kousuke Nitta, Shinichiro Mito and Hyunho Kang (National Institute of Technology, Tokyo College, Japan)

〈Abstract〉

Physical Unclonable Function is an authentication technology that uses the unique physical properties of hardware and has been attracting attention in the security field. However, it has problems in terms of cost because it requires additional circuits or media. In this study, we focused on the contact bounce characteristics of mechanical relays, which are used in many home appliances and machine tools. The Hamming distance of a binarized contact bouncing signal of 8 mechanical relays was investigated. The relays had different hamming distances despite the same product. Furthermore, it has a unique waveform with a small Challenge Response Pair space for various applied voltage to the relay’s coil. We also confirmed that the identification is possible using machine learning. These results showed that the contact bounce characteristics of individual relays could be physical unclonable function.
